A good cause

My Friend Tom Harris is a Pediatric Pulmonologist In North Carolina. He is participating in a Walk-a-Thon for Cystic Fibrosis. Actually, he's against CF and the damage it causes to lungs. You can donate here: http://www.cff.org/Great_Strides/dsp_DonationPage.cfm?walkid=4754&idUser=186998

By the way, if they find a cure for CF, Tom's business will suffer.

Like Chris Rock said of AIDS, they will never find a cure. There ain't no money in the cure. The money is in the medicine. The drug companies aren't in business for cures. Much like all "drug" dealers, they need repeat business. Chronic conditions are the life line to the "bottom line".

2 points of rebuttal
1. There reward for a scientist who finds a cure is immense. Even though the drug company might not benefit and try to suppress the finding- the potential benefit and profit will eventually win out (see polio vaccine)
2. You also have to assume that drug companies can cure everything if they tried hard enough. There will always be diseases we can't fix because we ain't bright enough.
